Abstract

In the last two decades, the interest towards Nb-MASC (i.e. niobium-MASC) alloys drastically increased because of their promising mechanical properties. Their tolerance to high temperatures drove much research aimed to the production of components operating in harsh environments, especially the blades of turbines for land and aircraft applications. On the other hand, the manufacturing of Nb-MASC composites still encounters multiple challenges, primarily due to the chemical reactivity of liquid Nb and the frequent non-homogeneity of the solid cast. To overcome such complications, induction melting in cold crucible furnace is proposed.
