- Abstract
Induction hardening is a well established method for the heat treatment of different components in several industries. Induction hardening processes have to be well adapted to the hardening requirements. Therefore, recent research was mainly concentrated on the optimal design of the hardening inductor and the optimal process parameters. The energy efficiency of induction hardening processes was not in the main focus. Due to the fact, that more induction hardening processes are installed, also the efficiency of these installations becomes more important. Therefore, a detailed investigation of the different losses in induction hardening installations has been carried out in order to show the potentials for improvement of the energy efficiencies of the different components. The following paper gives an overview about the main components of an induction hardening installation and the potentials for improvement of the efficiencies.
